- Richard Dale, Dordogne & Garonne
Interactive Content
Our holidays start and finish at the Hostellerie des Ducs in the small chateau village of Duras. The cycling is through rolling countryside dotted with hilltop towns which could mean a climb at the end of the day, to reach your hotel.
You'll cycle through 13th century bastides and villages dating from Plantaget times. The Dordogne is the perfect region for outdoor exercise combined with self-indulgent pit-stops; simply the best way to visit France.
Places to visit:
St Sardos on market day, the traditional wooden market place where the 100 years War began. Take the train to Les Eyzies for prehistroic caves and wall paintings, experience a stunning moment from the past. Biron, where Richard Coeur de Lion fought his last battle. Josephine Baker’s chateau on the river. The 15th century fortified castle at Bonaquil where the bread oven is big enough to feed an army. Allemans de Dropt with the 15th century church frescoes is one of several delightful little churches.
